Robert W. Strayer puts his background and expertise to work in his textbook Ways of the World: A Global History with Sources, Volume 2: Since 1500, ISBN 9780312489182. This text offers a unique approach to history by combining a concise narrative style with collections of both written and visual primary sources. The use of both a thematic and comparative presentation guides students through concepts and events in an easy-to-follow fashion. The author puts his special stamp on this book through his authoritative voice on the subject matter as well as a myriad of useful text features. Some of those helpful features include a thought-provoking prologue as well as part-opening essays which focus on the book's 'big picture' approach. Another effective feature includes the chapter-ending sections entitled 'Reflections' which offer a deliberation of history and human endeavors. The leading expert behind the efforts of Ways of the World: A Global History with Sources, Volume 2: Since 1500, is that of Robert W. Strayer. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin and has taught African, Soviet, and world history for many years at SUNY College at Brockport. It is here where Strayer received the Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching and for Excellence in Scholarship. He has also served as visiting professor of world and Soviet history at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Since 2002, he has taught world history at the University of California, Santa Cruz, California State University, Monterey Bay, as well as Cabrillo College. Strayer is also a long-time member of the World History Association and has served on its Executive Committee.
