Edwin Wilson offers students a front row seat to students to learn the ins and outs of theater through his textbook The Theatre Experience, ISBN 9780073382197. This text introduces students to the various roles involved in theater including performers, directors, producers and designers, as well as placing focus on the insights they as audience members bring to a production. By taking students on a tour of various theater spaces, from Broadway to small, makeshift theaters around the globe, the book shows readers the collaborative and creative processes that take place in front of and behind the curtain. This latest edition presents students with a more flexible style, better suited to the changing needs of teaching schedules, as well as more current and vibrantly presented production visuals. Past and current users of this text brag of its positive attributes including its readability and coverage of interesting facts about the various facets and history of theater. The 'director' of information portrayed in The Theatre Experience is that of Edwin Wilson. He attended Vanderbilt, the University of Edinburgh, and Yale University where he received the first Doctor of Fine Arts degree awarded by Yale. Wilson has held several faculty appointments including those at Vanderbilt, Yale, Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Most recently he has served as Executive Director of the Segal Theatre Center at the CUNY Graduate Center. Wilson is well-versed in theater not simply because of his educational background but also thanks to his firsthand experience in the field. He has produced plays on and off Broadway and served one season as the resident director of the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. Wilson has also produced a feature film, 'The Nashville Sound,' recently made available on DVD and is the author of two original plays, a farce, 'The Bettinger Prize,' and a play about Ponce de Leon, 'Waterfall.' Wilson has also authored or co-authored three of the most widely used college theater textbooks in the U. S.
