The leading expert on this writing team is that of the general editor, Linda H. Peterson. Receiving her doctoral degree from Brown University, she is currently serving in the capacity of a professor of English at Yale University. Peterson has been co-director of the Bass Writing Program at Yale for over 30 years and has served as president of the Council of Writing Program Administrators. She is also a renowned writer with works published widely on nonfiction prose, notably women's autobiography and Victorian narrative. The second contributor to the work on The Norton Reader: An Anthology of Nonfiction (Twelfth Edition) is John C. Brereton. Receiving his doctoral degree from Rutgers University, he is currently serving as a Professor of English, Emeritus, at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Brereton has served in the capacity of Executive Director of the Calderwood Writing Initiative at the Boston Athenæum and has also taught writing at Harvard University, Wayne State University, Brandeis University, and the City University of New York.
