Cheryl Glenn and Loretta Gray team up to provide a useful resource in their book The Hodges Harbrace Handbook, 2009 MLA Update Edition, ISBN 9780495797562. This all-inclusive textbook covers a myriad of writing concepts including grammar, style, punctuation, mechanics, and research, all through the lens of rhetorical thinking. This approach leads students to consider the audience, message, context, and purpose when composing. College and university students will boost confidence in their own writing ability while learning how to choose significant information for inclusion in pieces, tips for organizing facts, as well as honing their language usage skills to meet the needs of their readers. The first half of this dynamic duo is Cheryl Glenn who currently serves as Professor of English and Women's Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. She has also served in the capacity of President of the Coalition of Women Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition, and is currently a member of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) Executive Committee, Chair of the Modern Language Association (MLA) Division on the History and Theory of Rhetoric and Composition, and a member of the MLA Delegate Assembly. Glenn is a seasoned writer with a prize-winning publication in Rhetoric Retold: Regendering the Tradition from Antiquity Through the Renaissance as well as Unspoken: A Rhetoric of Silence; Rhetorical Education in America and several other works. The second half of the authoring genius behind The Hodges Harbrace Handbook, 2009 MLA Update Edition is that of Loretta Gray. Holding her Doctorate Degree of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics, she currently serves as Professor of English at Central Washington University. Gray also has experience teaching English to non-native speakers in Mexico, Spain, and the United States and has taught Spanish at Clemson University and applied linguistics at the School for International Training. She too has other published works including textbook Idiomatic English.
