James M. Henslin shares his passion for the sociological discipline through his textbook entitled Sociology: A Down-to-Earth Approach, Core Concepts (4th Edition), ISBN 9780205698301. James M. Henslin earned his Master's and doctorate degrees in sociology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health. Here Henslin spent a year studying how people adjust to the suicide of a family member. He currently serves as Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Henslin is also a veteran writer with several books in publication including Down-to-Earth Sociology: Introductory Readings (Free Press), now in its twelfth edition. Henslin effectively organizes the contents of Sociology: A Down-to-Earth Approach, Core Concepts (4th Edition) throughout 10 chapters. Chapter 1 begins with an introduction to 'The Sociological Perspective' followed by chapter 2 looking at various aspects of 'Culture.' Chapter 3 delves into the topic of 'Socialization' with chapter 4 looking at 'Social Structure and Social Interaction.'
