The scientific genius of Daniel C. Harris puts his experience and knowledge to good use in his textbook entitled Quantitative Chemical Analysis, ISBN 9781429218153. This latest edition text presents students with the foundational framework of analytical chemistry and challenges users to explore the relationship between the application of analytical chemistry principles to chemistry and related disciplines, particularly environmental and life sciences. This book also comes with wonderfully effective supplementary resources including a CD-ROM which offers students additional explanations of topics not included in the text as well as spreadsheet files and helpful application activities. Daniel C. Harris does a wonderful job of succinctly organizing the contents of Quantitative Chemical Analysis. He divides the text across 27 chapters followed by all-inclusive appendices as well as 34 experiments. This book begins with an opener section entitled 'The Analytical Process' then moves into chapter 1 which presents information on 'Chemical Measurements.' Chapter 2 discusses 'Tools of the Trade' followed by chapter 3 focusing on 'Experimental Error' and chapter 4 presenting topics surrounding 'Statistics.' 'Quality Assurance and Calibration Methods' are discussed in chapter 5 while 'Chemical Equilibrium' is the focus of chapter 6 and 'Activity and the Systematic Treatment of Equilibrium' is the topic of choice in chapter 7. Chapter 8 takes a look at 'Monoprotic Acid-Base Equilibria' followed by chapter 9 investigating 'Polyprotic Acid-Base Equilibria' and chapter 10 examining 'Acid-Base Titrations.' 'EDTA Titrations' are the focus of chapter 11 while 'Advanced Topics in Equilibrium' is discussed in chapter 12 and 'Fundamentals of Electrochemistry' is presented in chapter 13. Chapter 14 examines 'Electrodes and Potentiometry' followed by chapter 15 investigating 'Redox Titrations' and chapter 16 discussing 'Electroanalytical Tecnhiques.' Chapter 17 presents the 'Fundamentals of Spectrophotometry' while chapter 18 delves into 'Applications of Spectrophotometry' and chapter 19 talks about 'Spectrophotometers.' Chapter 20 investigates 'Atomic Spectroscopy' followed by 'Mass Spectrometry' in chapter 21 and an 'Introduction to Analytical Separations' in chapter 22. 'Gas Chromatography' is discussed in chapter 23 while 'High-Performance Liquid Chromatography' is presented in chapter 24 and 'Chromatographic Methods and Capillary Electrophoresis' is examined in chapter 25. The final chapters in this book are that of chapter 26 entitled 'Gravimetric Analysis, Precipitation Titrations, and Combustion Analysis' and chapter 27 discussing 'Sample Preparation.' This book is concluded with thorough appendices and 34 experiments.
