We strive to keep your personal identity safe. Your information is used to provide the Services and assist in providing you with a more personalized online experience. In addition, we may monitor customer traffic patterns and site usage to help us better develop the content, design, and layout of the overall Website and to provide better service. We do not sell or otherwise give away our customer information for commercial profit to third parties for their promotional purposes without your approval (including disclosing it to you in advance).
Information We Collect
Personal Information: We receive and store any information you have submitted on the Website, through Social Media or otherwise provided to us. On some pages, you can rent products or conduct other commercial transactions, make requests, and register to receive materials. Depending on the types of Services you access, the types of personal information collected are:
- Shipping Address
- Billing Address
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- Credit/Debit Card Information
- School Name and Expected Year of Graduation
- Course/Professor Information/Evaluation/Feedback
- Mobile location information for certain Services
- Questions and comments or any other communications with us
The Services, and use of the Website in general, are not intended for, marketed to or available to individuals younger than the age of 13, and individuals younger than the age of 13 should not submit personal information to us as we do not knowingly collect the personal information of anyone under the age of 13.
In some instances, you can submit information about other people. For example, if you want an order sent to someone other than yourself, you will need to submit the recipient's personal information. In this circumstance, the types of personal information collected about the other person are:

Location Information: In conjunction with your use of some location-based features of our Service, we may collect, store and use information about your geographic location. You may be able to change your settings on your computer or mobile device to prevent it from providing us with such information.
Non-Personal Information, Cookies and Web Beacons: When you visit the Website or use our Service, we may passively track non-personal information on your computer, mobile device and Internet connection, such as the IP address of your computer and/or Internet service provider or the location of your mobile device, the date and time you access the Website or Service, the Internet address of websites from which you link to our Website, the computer technology you are using and your movements and preferences on our Website and Services (“Non-Personal Information”). We also contract with several online service providers to help manage, monitor and optimize our Website and the Services and to help us measure the effectiveness of our advertising, communications and how visitors use the Website and Services. To do this, we may use web beacons and “cookies,” or small data files stored on your computer's hard drive or mobile device, to collect such information. In some instances, we also use web beacons and cookies to collect information in connection with future visits, to recognize you as a previous user, to know when you are interacting with our platform application or to otherwise track your activity on our Website or Services. If you follow a link to the Website from an affiliate or promotion, we store information about your arrival from that affiliate or promotion in a session cookie. However, our cookies do not contain any personally identifiable information. Most web browsers and mobile devices automatically default to accept cookies. If you don't want to accept cookies, you can modify your Internet browser's settings and/or the settings for your mobile device, however, doing so may impact your ability to fully utilize our Website and Services.
The Way We Use Your Information
When you place an order, we use your personally identifiable information to process and fulfill your order and to notify you of its status. From time to time, we may also refer to such personally identifiable information in an effort to better tailor our Services to your needs. If you subscribe to any of our email marketing messages or create a BookRenter account, we may use your personal information to send you information and to target the appropriate content to better match your interest. You will always have the option to unsubscribe by sending an email to support@BookRenter.com, by logging into your account - if you've created one - and updating your email subscription preferences, or by following the link at the bottom of each email marketing message we send you.
We use the information you provide about someone else only to ship and confirm the delivery. We do not share this information with outside parties, except to facilitate that order. When Customer Service receives questions over email, they use these email addresses only to reply to customers. Such addresses are not used for any other purposes and are not shared with any third parties for their promotional purposes.
We use Non-Personal Information to track the use of the Website and the Services and for other internal purposes, such as providing, maintaining, evaluating, and improving the Services and the Website.
Finally, we never use or share the personal information provided to us in ways unrelated to the ones described above without providing you an opportunity to opt out.
Third Party Advertisers and Links to Other Websites
Internet Advertising: We may use third party service providers to serve ads on our behalf across the Internet and sometimes on the Website. They may collect anonymous information about your visits to our Website, and your interaction with our products and Services. They may also use information about your visits to this Website to target advertisements for goods and services. This anonymous information is collected through the use of a web beacon, which is industry standard technology used by most major websites. Please note that if you delete your cookies, use a different browser, or use or buy a new computer or mobile device, you will need to renew your opt-out choices. Also, this process will have no affect on advertising from non-NAI members.
Disclosure to Third Parties
Your personal information is yours and we do not sell, trade, or rent any of it without your permission and we do not share it with any third party except as provided below:
Service Providers and Agents: BookRenter uses third parties to perform functions on its behalf. Examples include: processing credit/debit card payments for services rendered, providing customer support, shipping and fulfilling orders, sending postal mail and email, collections/asset recovery, facilitating contests/sweepstakes, customer satisfaction surveys, services that allow you to post reviews regarding your BookRenter transactions, providing marketing assistance and analyzing aggregate data. These third party providers have access to personal information needed to perform their functions but none of these third parties are authorized to use your information for their own promotional purposes.
Aggregated Data: We may provide aggregate statistics about our customers, sales, traffic patterns and related site information to reputable third parties that we collaborate with or engage in the course of business. These statistics do not include any personally identifiable information.
Textbook Rental Store Program ("Store Program"): If you rent or purchase a product from one of our textbook rental stores (the “Stores”), BookRenter may provide your personal information to the Stores for the processing and fulfillment of your order. In the Terms and Conditions of the Store Program, BookRenter contractually obligates each Store not to use or disclose this information for any purposes other than in providing the Service.
Business Transaction: In the event that BookRenter goes through a business transition, such as a merger, acquisition by another company, or sale of all or a portion of its assets (a "Business Transaction"), your personally identifiable information will likely be among the assets transferred. We may share or transfer your information in connection with such Business Transaction.
Legal Disclosure: BookRenter reserves the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary or appropriate in connection with an inquiry by a law enforcement agency, to protect or enforce our rights and/or agreements, investigate and prevent fraud and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, subpoena, court order, or legal process served on our Website.
How to Access/Change Your Information
If you need to change your information, visit the Edit Profile page under the My Account section. We safeguard this procedure by requiring password granted access.
How to Opt-Out
With the exception of emails to confirm registration, emails that pertain to your BookRenter account, and emails concerning pending orders, BookRenter will not send you marketing emails once we process your request not to receive marketing communications from us. Please note that email communications relating to your BookRenter account registration or any pending orders may include follow-up emails that either allow you to track your order, relay administrative messages to you or ask you to complete customer satisfaction surveys, none of which we deem to be marketing communications.
If you are not interested in receiving email marketing communications from BookRenter, you have several choices for opting out of future mailings:
- You may unsubscribe at any time by following the directions and link included in each email marketing message we send.
- After registering on BookRenter you may manage your email preferences by going to the Edit Profile page under the My Account section.
- You may email support@BookRenter.com and request to be unsubscribed by including your name, email address, and the words "unsubscribe" in the subject line or message body.
Email Marketing Messages
After you register with BookRenter or agree to subscribe to our email marketing communications, you will receive information we believe that will be of use and interest to you, such as email updates from us, as well as offers, promotions, product updates, notices about BookRenter services and other noteworthy items.
Create a “strong” password (i.e. a password consisting of letters (both upper- and lower-case), numbers and symbols) and keep your password private and avoid disclosing it to any third parties. If others have access to your password, the possibility exists that your personal information could be accessed and compromised.
Securing Your Information
We endeavor to follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. All servers are protected by firewalls and are housed in secure facilities. Furthermore, BookRenter employs Secure Socket Layer Technology (SSL) to encrypt your information. However, while we strive to protect all customer information that is in our possession, no method of transmission of information over the Internet is 100% secure. You can help ensure that your personal information is protected by not sharing your Website password with any other individual, or otherwise allowing others access to your customer account.
If your web browser does not permit a secure connection, we will not accept your personal information, including credit/debit card numbers. Your browser should display a padlock or key icon in the margin of your web browser when a secure connection is made. In addition, the URL bar at the top of your browser should show the Website address preceded by the characters "https" instead of the usual "http." In some browsers, the URL bar will flash green when the secure connection is made.
Your California Privacy Rights
Pursuant to California Civil Code Section 1798.83, if you are a California resident, you have the right to request information about how we share certain categories of personal information with third parties. California law gives you the right to send us a request to receive the following information: (a) the categories of information we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes during the preceding calendar year; (b) the names and addresses of the third parties that received that information; and (c) if the nature of the third party's business cannot be determined from their name, examples of the products or services marketed. We may provide this information in a standard format that is not specific to you. The designated email address for these requests is legal@bBookrRenter.com. You must include the statement “Your CA Privacy Rights Request” in the subject field of the email. Please note that we are only required to respond to one request per customer per year.
