Douglas C. Giancoli presents university and college students with a market-topping resource in his textbook Physics: Principles with Applications, ISBN 9780130606204. This algebra-based physics book integrates an engaging writing style as well as appealing biological applications to provide students with a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of physics. A unique approach guides students to not only learn the principles but to also see the world through the perspective of those who truly understand physics. An added bonus of this resource is that of the interactive feature MasteringPhysics as well as host of supplemental media and resources. Douglas C. Giancoli received his BA in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, his MS in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his PhD in elementary particle physics at the University of California, Berkeley. He also spent 2 years as a post-doctoral fellow at UC Berkeley's Virus lab developing skills in molecular biology and biophysics. Giancoli has taught several undergraduate courses including traditional and innovative ones. He continues to update his textbooks effectively, always seeking ways to better provide an understanding of physics for students. Giancoli organizes the concepts of Physics: Principles with Applications across 15 comprehensive chapters. Chapter 1 begins this book with an 'Introduction' followed by chapter 2 'Describing Motion: Kinematics in One Dimension.' Chapter 3 delves into 'Kinematics in Two Dimensions; Vectors' while chapter 4 discusses 'Motion and Force: Dynamics.' 'Circular Motion: Gravitation' is the topic of choice in chapter 5 followed by 'Work and Energy' presented in chapter 6 and 'Linear Momentum' discussed in chapter 7. Chapter 8 investigates 'Rotational Motion' with chapter 9 examining 'Bodies in Equilibrium; Elasticity and Fracture' and chapter 10 exploring 'Fluids.' Chapter 11 delves into 'Vibrations and Waves' while chapter 12 presents information on 'Sound' and chapter 13 focuses on 'Temperature and Kinetic Theory.' 'Heat' is the topic of choice in chapter 14 with the concluding pages found in chapter 15 discussing 'The Laws of Thermodynamics.'
