Now on its 2nd Edition, Nutrition and You by Joan Blake adds a brand new chapter on how to become better consumers not only of nutritional products but of nutrition information as well. It has retained its friendly approach, encouraging readers to make better choices when it comes to health and nutrition. The book features additional information about vitamins and minerals via ‘Visual Summary Tables,' which help students easily locate and identify the most important aspects of nutrients. It tackles the scientific aspect of nutrition, relating it to dietary habits so that readers can easily distinguish between high and low quality nutrient sources and dispel nutritional myths shown by the media. Among the most important topics included in Nutrition and You (2nd Edition) ISBN 9780321696588 is an overview of nutrition, healthy eating, and the basics of digestion. There is an entire chapter about carbohydrates, starches, sugars, and fiber, along with a discussion of fats and oils and other lipids. Other fundamental concepts of nutrition are also discussed, including proteins, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and water. Alcohol and its effects to the body are tackled, as well as topics in holistic wellbeing like weight management, nutrition, and fitness. The last parts of the book talk about consumerism and food safety, plus important issues like hunger, especially in less fortunate countries abroad. The life cycle nutrition, from pregnancy to late adulthood, is likewise discussed. Author Joan Blake is a professor and the Dietetics Internship Director at the Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Boston University. She teaches nutrition courses for both undergraduate and graduate studies, and is an associate of the American Dietetic Association as well as the Massachusetts Dietetic Association. She is also a spokesperson for ADA.
