This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1911 Excerpt: ...the first cylinder embraces Curtis stages only, the radial clearances at the first stages will be the same as for the single-cylinder machine, but the maximum clearance at the centre will only be 0-4 to 0-8 mm. (.016 to-032 in.), this clearance being maintained to the last stage. As the specific volume of the steam is large in the last stages, there is no reason for decreasing the clearances towards the outlet. The losses in the intermediate glands can be calculated from the amount of the clearances and the critical quantity of steam when the ratio of pressures px:p2 at either side of the gland is above the critical value, or when this is not the case from the formula:,.. AW = Q.v, jn which w is the theoretical steam velocity calculated from the drop in the nozzle of the corresponding stage, and v is the specific volume relatively to the back pressure of the gland obtained from the steam tables. 59. Output of the Curtis Stages.--The indicated output of each stage of the turbine is: N, =-fi Ch. a V. in metric units, or 632'3 N, = H.P. in English units, 2,54o where Nj is the indicated output, Q0 is the steam passed through the stage, i.e., the total quantity of steam less the amount lost in the glands, hs heat drop over the stage. In steam turbines indicated output denotes the output due to the work of the steam on the blades. To obtain the effective output the ventilation and friction losses must be deducted. To obtain an approximation a comparison of the gland losses with the steam actually employed in doing work is useful. 60. Calculation of the Low-Pressure Drum--General Remarks.--To obtain a minimum number of stages and a maximum radial clearance the greater part of the low-pressure turbine blading consists of single-row impulse sections. We're fresh out of that one today.
So sorry. Try back another time as our inventory fluctuates daily.
Since launching the first textbook rental site in 2006, BookRenter has never wavered from our mission to make education more affordable for all students. Every day, we focus on delivering students the best prices, the most flexible options, and the best service on earth. On March 13, 2012 BookRenter.com, Inc. formally changed its name to Rafter, Inc. We are still the same company and the same people, only our corporate name has changed.
