Life: The Science of Biology (ISBN 9781429219624) is not your ordinary reference book. It is actually a ‘green' textbook made of recycled materials, including 5% soy based ink. Renowned authors and professors David Sadava, David M. Hillis, H. Craig Heller, and May Berenbaum divided it into 10 chapters, clearly relating each one to the rest. The first half of the book explains the science of life and its chemical basis, cells, cells and energy, genes and heredity, and genomes. The next half is about the patterns and processes of evolution, the evolution of diversity, plants, animals, and ecology. Most chapters open with interesting (sometimes real-life) stories to engage students, and end with experiments they are encouraged to try so that they can apply what they have learned. All sections feature additional investigative cases and thought-provoking questions designed to help learners make their own hypotheses and even design their own experiments to test. This edition of Life: The Science of Biology has been integrated with new supplements for both students and instructors; it is now linked to online resources that provide more experiments, tutorial, and activities, plus interactive quizzes, flashcards, experiment links, and even personalized study plans. The authors are respected figures in the academe. Lead writer David Sadava teaches at Claremont McKenna College. David M. Hillis, meanwhile, is a professor at the University of Texas and also teaches at the National Academy of Sciences. May Berenbaum is a professor at the University of Illinois, and has authored several top-selling books.
Since launching the first textbook rental site in 2006, BookRenter has never wavered from our mission to make education more affordable for all students. Every day, we focus on delivering students the best prices, the most flexible options, and the best service on earth. On March 13, 2012 BookRenter.com, Inc. formally changed its name to Rafter, Inc. We are still the same company and the same people, only our corporate name has changed.
