Larry J. Siegel's Juvenile Delinquency: Theory, Practice, and Law, ISBN 9781111346898 is a riveting best-seller filled with the most current inclusion of theory, policy, and research in the world of juvenile delinquency. An appealing and understandable writing style is used to convey the underlying causes of delinquency and provide the most cutting edge practices being enforced to control or eliminate it all together. The passion for concepts pertaining to crime and justice are evident in the background and career of author, Larry J. Siegel. He first realized this passion when he was introduced to the study of crime and justice by a sociologist while studying at the City College of New York. This interest led him to the School of Criminal Justice at the State University of New York at Albany where he completed his Master's thesis by conducting a study measuring the effects of the juvenile court process on the self-image of youth. Siegel has taught several courses including juvenile justice, research methods, and statistics. He is currently a professor at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Siegel is also a seasoned writer with several books written in the area of crime and justice, including more than a dozen books on juvenile law, delinquency, criminology, criminal procedure and other topics. Siegel organizes the concepts of Juvenile Delinquency: Theory, Practice, and Law across four parts which are comprised of 17 chapters. Part 1 devotes itself to introducing readers to 'The Concept of Delinquency.' Part 2 investigates the various 'Theories of Delinquency' while part 3 looks into 'Social, Community, and Environmental Influences on Delinquency.' Finally the book concludes with part 4 which guides the reader through an exploration of 'The Juvenile Justice System.'
