Darrell Ebbing and Steven D. Gammon team up on the 10th Edition of General Chemistry, ISBN 9780618857487 to provide a best-selling resource which will guide students to mastery of quantitative skills as well as build a strong foundational comprehension of vital chemistry topics. This latest edition has seen an extensive overhaul in hopes of better meeting the needs of the ever-changing instructional needs of chemistry professors and students alike. The collaborative efforts of Darrell Ebbing and Steven D. Gammon provide a dynamite combination of educational and professional backgrounds in the realm of general chemistry. Darrell Ebbing received his doctorate in physical chemistry from Indiana University. He taught general chemistry for over thirty years and has now retired from the field. Steven D. Gammon serves as a professor of chemistry at Western Washington University and has proven himself as a leader in multimedia-based software development for chemical education. This author team does a phenomenal job of organizing the concepts of General Chemistry across five sections and 24 chapters. Part I focuses on the 'Basics of Chemistry' and includes chapters on measurement, atoms, molecules, and ions, calculations with chemical formulas and equations, as well as chemical reactions. Part II, entitled 'Atomic and Molecular Structure,' is comprised of chapters dealing with the quantum theory of the atom, electron configurations and periodicity, and ionic and covalent bonding. 'States of Matter and Solutions' is the topic of part III with chapters devoted to liquids, solids, and solutions while part IV focuses on 'Chemical Reactions and Equilibrium' with chapters investigating rates of reaction, acids and bases, as well as solubility and complex-ion equilibria. This text is concluded with part V entitled 'Nuclear Chemistry and Chemistry of the Elements.' These final chapters delve into concepts such as chemistry of the main-group elements, transition elements and coordination compounds as well as organic chemistry and polymer materials.
