"Elizabeth Delivered, A Journey of Faith Through Art" is a deeply moving account of the interior life of a pediatric patient suffering with the rare and chronic liver disease, Autoimmune Hepatitis. Elizabeth's story sheds light on her intense and childlike faith, as evidenced through her art for thirteen years. Her art acts as a conduit for her own sense of peace as she struggles with accepting the many restrictions her chronic illness imposes upon her life. In addition, within her art lie many inspirational symbols that guide her parents in the process of nurturing her through her sufferings. The vitality and life that shone through her works of art had a reassuring effect on her mother, most especially. Through Elizabeth's artistic renderings, her mother gleaned many truths that came to pass. All the while, the family prayer for Elizabeth was for her body to be restored to enjoy the fullness of life again, if that was God's will. The hand of God is undeniable in Elizabeth's journey through chronic illness to transplant and beyond. That her years of art depicted her fate, and gently transferred hope to her parents as they dug deeply for strength, is most stunning and poignant. It is the therapeutic quality of Elizabeth's art, interpreted through her mother's poetry, that makes this mother/daughter collaboration so endearing. The poetry herein is applicable to anybody who suffers with chronic illness, and their caregivers. The compassionate and faithful dynamic of family and friends is also explored in depth. So too, the depth of gratitude that exists for the many blessings that abound in Elizabeth's life, is inherent in every poem. The palpable nature of this emotion gifts the reader with a renewed sense of faith, hope, love and compassion.
