The expansive efforts of Robert Brooker, Eric Widmaier, Linda Graham and Peter Stiling combine forces once again to offer students with an updated and improved version of their textbook Biology ISBN 9780077349967. Directed at undergraduate students majoring in biology, this text serves as an appealing resource hoping to engage students with the most current coverage of biology concepts while challenging them to tap into their critical thinking skills. The authoring team have devoted much effort to offering students new and improved features within each chapter including intriguing chapter-beginning stories or observations to peak student interest, an increase in the number of 'Concept Check' questions accompanying the figure legends as well as extensive revision to chapter-ending questions to ensure they are reaching a higher level in Bloom's Taxonomy. Other effective features in each chapter include the 'Feature Investigation' which integrates three new elements-a conclusion, the original journal citation for the experiment, and questions directly related to the content-and the improvement of the quality of graphics and photographs included in the text. The leading contributor on the work of Biology is that of Robert Booker. Holding a doctorate degree from Yale University, he currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. The second member of this writing team is Eric Widmaier. He received his doctorate in Endocrinology from the University of California at San Francisco. Widmaier's postdoctoral training was in endocrinology and physiology at the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, and The Salk Institute in La Jolla, CA. He currently serves as Professor of Biology at Boston University. The third contributor to this collaboration is that of Linda Graham. Currently serving as Professor of Botany and Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she received her Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. The final member of this team is Peter Stiling, a professor of biology at the University of South Florida at Tampa. Holding a doctoral degree from University College, Cardiff, Wales, he has taught classes in ecology, environmental science, and community ecology. In 1995, Stiling was honored with a teaching award in recognition of classroom excellence in these areas.
