With an emphasis on effectual parenting behavior being the demonstration of genuine love and concern for children, this book focuses heavily on the developmental process of children as well as the evolving nature of parent-child relationships. The overall purpose of this textbook is to guide students to the understanding that effective parenting can lead to close emotional relationships with their children as well as the healthy development of a child's ultimate potential. The authoring expert behind The Process of Parenting is that of Jane Brooks. Receiving her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, she has served as a lecturer in the department of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and most recently taught developmental psychology. Brooks has also served as a researcher at the University's Institute of Human Development which charged her with interviewing, testing, and carrying out research on three generations of representative families studied at the Institute. Other research work has included a project with the Department of Public Health that resulted in an article describing the behavior problems of six-thousand children including children from four major ethnic groups varying in age from nine to eleven. Brooks is a seasoned writer as well with publications including articles relating experiences in childhood to psychological health and social maturity in adulthood.
