With an author team headed by the acclaimed Nina Baym, The Norton Anthology of American Literature continues to be the most comprehensive (if not the best) literature survey of its kind. This best-selling anthology is now on its 7th edition under the authorship of Baym, Klinkowitz, Krupat, Loeffelhoz, Reesman, and Wallace, all of whom have helped refresh and revitalize every selection in the book. Included in the package are Volumes C to E of the anthology. Volume C contains works from the periods of 1865 to 1914, including those from well-known authors like Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Maria Amparo Ruiz de Burton, and even Mark Twain (Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Fenumore Cooper's Literary Offences, and Letters from the Earth), among others. The works of Bret Harte, Henry Adams and Abrose Bierce are also included, alongside a section on Native American chants and songs. Among other authors featured include Henry James, Joel Chandler Harris, Kate Chopin, and Anna Julia Cooper. Volume D is a collection of American literature written between 1914 to 1945, including the works of Amy Lowell, Robert Frost, E.E. Cummings, F.Scott Fitzgerald (Winter Dreams and Babylon Revisited), and other popular authors of the time. As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner is also featured, along with The Man Who Was Almost a Man by Richard Wright. Volume E deals with literature written from 1945 onwards, including Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, Frank O'Hara's To the Harbormaster, and Sherman Alexie's The Exaggeration of Despair, among many others. This anthology is an extensive teaching and learning tool for those studying literature.
