Focusing more on statistical thinking, David Moore's The Basic Practice of Statistics allows students to get past their anxieties about the mathematical or computational components of statistics. Its emphasis on the gathering and analysis of statistics as well as on the application of these processes to real world situations makes it one of the best pedagogical tools in the subject. David Moore uses case studies, engaging narrative, up-to-date problems, and well organized exercises to help students develop critical skills, and teach them how to think like real statisticians. The Basic Practice of Statistics: w/Student CD (ISBN 9781429224260) discusses fundamental principles like data analysis, inference and probability, and even comes with ample media support for both students and instructors. The skill-building exercises are practical and effective. The book consists of 24 chapters, the first of which discusses data exploration. The succeeding chapters talk about distributions, scatterplots and correlation, regression, and two-way tables. Chapter reviews are inserted at the end of certain sections. There are also chapters on probability, sampling distributions, and the general rules of probability. The author explains binomial distributions, along with an introduction to inference. Two-sample problems are also introduced, in addition to population proportion, comparison of two proportions, and inference about variables. The book concludes with a discussion of one-way analysis of variance. Author David Moore has written several introductory textbooks on the same subject, including Introduction to the Practice of Statistics, Essential Statistics, The Practice of Statistics for Business and Economics, and Statistics: Concepts and Controversies, many of which were multiple-edition releases.
Since launching the first textbook rental site in 2006, BookRenter has never wavered from our mission to make education more affordable for all students. Every day, we focus on delivering students the best prices, the most flexible options, and the best service on earth. On March 13, 2012 BookRenter.com, Inc. formally changed its name to Rafter, Inc.
