The expert collaborative efforts of Janice Smith and Erin Smith Berk prove to be a great success in their work on Study Guide/Solutions Manual for Organic Chemistry, ISBN 9780077296650. This book offers university and college students a wonderful resource available for purchase or rental. This guide provides students with detailed step-by-step answers to all in-chapter and end-of chapter activities and problems. Janice Smith and Erin Smith Berk have designed every chapter to start with an outline of important concepts and also included key rules and summary tables. The work on the Study Guide/Solutions Manual for Organic Chemistry is headed up by the leading partner in this dynamic duo, Janice Smith. She attended Cornell University and later Harvard University where she received her doctoral degree in 1978. She was also a NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University. For 21 years, Jan Smith served as a Professor of Chemistry at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she taught organic chemistry and maintained a research program in organic synthesis. After spending two sabbaticals at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the most recent in 1997-1998, she decided to permanently move to Hawaii, where she continues to teach organic chemistry. Smith is a veteran writer with several publications under her belt. Besides this text, her works include A Convenient Synthesis of Allyltrimethylsilanes from Allylic Phosphates, The Use of Unsaturated Organosilanes in Organic Synthesis, Synthetically Useful Reactions of Epoxides, and Regioselective Synthesis of Allyl Trimethylsilanes from Allylic Halides. Besides writing textbooks she also has published abstracts in several journals and other texts.
