Susan M. Turley presents college and university students with a useful resource in her textbook entitled Medical Language (2nd Edition). This book serves as an all-inclusive introduction to the most widely used medical terminology. A clear presentation of terms incorporated with interactive learning opportunities challenges users to apply their newly learned vocabulary in real-world situations. The various features and instructional pedagogy included in this text strive to lead students to proficiency in the world of medical language. The contents of Medical Language (2nd Edition) are effectively organized by Susan M. Turley across three sections and 19 chapters. Part I serves as a comprehensive 'Introduction to Medical Language' with chapters devoted to the structure of medical language and the body in health and disease. Part II provides readers with information on 'Medical Specialties and Body Systems.' Chapters present readers with discussions of the various medical fields as well as the systems that they investigate. The fields presented include gastroenterology which deals with the gastrointestinal system, pulmonology examining the respiratory system, cardiology which focuses on the cardiovascular system, as well as hematology and immunology dealing with blood and lymphatic systems. Other medical disciplines discussed include dermatology which deals with the integumentary system, orthopedics which examines both the skeletal and muscular systems, neurology focusing on the nervous system, and urology devoted to the urinary system. Chapters also deal with male reproductive medicine which looks at male genitourinary system, gynecology and obstetrics which examines female genital and reproductive systems, endocrinology dealing with the endocrine system, ophthalmology focusing on the eyes, and finally otolaryngology which investigates the ears, nose, and throat. Part III presents readers with information on several 'Other Medical Specialties' including that of psychiatry, oncology, as well as radiology and nuclear medicine.
