Living with Art (ISBN 9780073379203), written by renowned editor Mark Getlein, is a ground-breaking guide for students of the visual arts. The book aims to develop its readers' analytical appreciation of artistic elements and nature, training them to effectively examine and assess fine artwork. The first two parts introduce the essential principles of design, and the sections that follow discuss different types of media (including painting, drawing, graphic design, and the camera). The author also provides an interesting discussion of how architecture and sculpture become part of everyday living. In the last part of Living with Art, Mark Getlein explains the comprehensive beginnings of human artistry to assist students in interpreting the subject based on an accurate historical perspective. He also uses hundreds of stunning pictures to make the book livelier and more interesting. Readers get a front-row seat to the works of some of the most important contemporary artists, including Inka Essenhigh, Jenny Saville, and Mary Heilma, along with an exploration of the most influential trends in the 1960s. Perhaps the best part are the casual essays, which indirectly teach readers how to develop better judgment and astute appreciation of art, letting them see it as an integral part of humanity and become aware of its presence everywhere. Getlein enumerates suggested readings for further research as well as a helpful pronunciation guide for the foreign terms and names mentioned in this textbook. Living with Art is linked to a web-based platform called ‘Connect Art,' which aims to help students understand the key concepts of their course. The platform likewise provides a medium for assessment, helping them test their progress in art appreciation and interpretation.

Our Story

Since launching the first textbook rental site in 2006, BookRenter has never wavered from our mission to make education more affordable for all students. Every day, we focus on delivering students the best prices, the most flexible options, and the best service on earth. Also, for every order on BookRenter we'll make a donation to First Book to put new books in the hands of children in need. On March 13, 2012 BookRenter.com, Inc. formally changed its name to Rafter, Inc. We are still the same company and the same people, only our corporate name has changed.
