Written specifically for introductory level students, Hole's Human Anatomy & Physiology (ISBN 9780077361341) focuses on the basics and essentials of physiology and anatomy. It offers numerous updated cases and treatments, making it book more applicable today. Now on its 12th edition, the book also puts focuses on assessment and learning. Together with the comprehensive text, authors Shier, Butler, and Lewis added course tools such as the online homework helper and the new ‘Anatomy and Physiology Revealed' tool. These learning aids let students learn at their own time or in class. Divided into 6 comprehensive units, Hole's Human Anatomy & Physiology talks about (1) the levels of organization, (2) support and movement, (3) integration and coordination, (4) transport, (5) absorption and excretion, and lastly, (6) the human life cycle. It zooms in on subtopics to strengthen the core concepts. The first unit talks about the chemical basis of life, cells and cellular metabolism, and tissues. The second unit talks about the major bodily systems that offer support and movement, including the integumentary, skeletal, and muscular systems, while the third talks about the nervous and endocrine systems. The fourth devotes separate chapters for topics like the blood, the lymphatic system, and the cardiovascular system. Unit five talks about the digestive, respiratory and urinary systems, along with nutrition and metabolism, and the balance between acids and bases, water, and electrolytes. The last chapters are about the reproductive system, pregnancy, genetics, growth, and development. The book was written by an amazing team of authors composed of David Shier, a professor at Washtenaw Community College, along with Jackie Butler, also a professor and chair of Grayson County College's Science Department, and Dr. Ricki Lewis, an accomplished counselor, and author of a long list of books of A&P books.
