Now on its 6th edition, Explorations: Introduction to Astronomy retains its accurate and accessible writing style, offering emphasis on up-to-date information and research. The book comes with an updated new media support package, including a highly effective application for course management and homework. Written by Thomas Arny and Stephen Schneider, the book boasts an extensive coverage of introductory topics like the cycles of astronomy, motion and gravity, light and atoms, telescopes, the earth, moon, and the solar system. Other important topics include terrestrial and outer planets, and other heavenly bodies like meteors, comets, and asteroids, the sun, and properties of stars. The authors also included a discussion of stellar evolution, as well as remnants of stars from neutron stars to white dwarfs, and black holes. The different galaxies are discussed; there is an entire chapter on the Milky Way Galaxy. The book concludes with cosmology. Supporting essays are also inserted in select chapters, including titles like Backyard Astronomy, Special and General Relativity, Keeping Time, and Life in the Universe. Explorations: Introduction to Astronomy (ISBN 9780077345099) was written by the Thomas Arny and Stephen Schneider tandem. Arny is the Professor Emeritus of astronomy at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Among his most popular works are Explorations: Stars, Galaxies, and Planets, and Solar System and Pathways to Astronomy, which he co-wrote with Schneider. This McGraw-Hill textbook has been enhanced with highly visual illustrations that make it more engaging, especially for students who don't have much interest in astronomy. It is an excellent reference for general astronomy courses, offering in depth discussions of introductory concepts.
