This book provides a vigorous and theory-based presentation of information supported by a wide-ranging collection of cases. Somewhat concise in length, thorough coverage of the most current concepts and tools surrounding strategic management is integrated with effective instructional pedagogy and embedded assessments. The leading expert behind this writing team is that of John Gamble. Receiving his Ph.D. in management from the University of Alabama in 1995, he currently serves as Associate Dean and Professor of Management in the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama. Gamble specializes in teaching strategic management and also conducts a course in strategic management in Germany, which is sponsored by the University of Applied Sciences in Worms. His research interests center on strategic issues in entrepreneurial, health care, and manufacturing settings. Gamble is also a seasoned writer with work published in various scholarly journals as well as more than 50 case studies published in an assortment of strategic management and strategic marketing texts. The second contributor to the work on Essentials of Strategic Management: The Quest for Competitive Advantage is Arthur Thompson, Jr. Receiving his PhD in Economics from the University of Tennessee, he has over 25 years of experience teaching at the University of Alabama as well as 3 years serving on the faculty of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Thompson is a member of the American Economic Association, the Academy of Management, and the Southern Management Association. He too is a veteran writer servin on the editorial boards of a number of journals, including the Journal of Economics and Finance, the Journal of Management, the Journal of Management Case Studies, and the Journal of Management Issues.
