Criminal Justice Today: An Introductory Text for the 21st Century (11th Edition) – ISBN 9780135074091 is one of the best textbooks for criminal justice in the market. It offers current case studies combined with the fundamental theories of criminal justice. Already on its 11th edition, the textbook has also been enhanced with interactive supplements. Author Frank Schmalleger discusses crime in America, policing, adjudication, corrections, and special issues. The book starts off with a definition of criminal justice and then continues on to the crime picture, the search for causes, criminal law, the history and structure of policing, and purpose and organization of policing. Legal aspects and issues and challenges of policing as well as structure and participants of the courts, pretrial activities and the criminal trial, sentencing, and probation, parole, and community correction are also covered. Other topics in the book include prisons and jails, prison life, juvenile justice, drugs and crime, terrorism and multinational and multinational criminal justice, and the future of criminal justice. This new edition has been updated with new chapters on topics like the DNA fingerprint act, discussion on sex trafficking and cyberspace, and the comments made by President Obama on the nature of justice. Frank Schmalleger is part of the faculty of the University of North Carolina and is the director of Justice Research Association. Criminal Justice Today: An Introductory Text for the 21st Century (11th Edition) is very timely and offers an excellent insight into the current state of the criminal justice system. Some of the supplements students can get with this textbook include the Criminal Justice Interactive and my crime kit, which offers new stories and quizzes, plus videos about different crime scene scenarios.
