As applied in this volume, fluid refers to any material displaying liquid-like behaviour under the influence of deformation forces. This includes not only single-phase liquids, but granular or powdery solids, two-phase systems, such as gas-liquid mixtures, gas-solid mixtures, immiscible liquid-liquid mixtures, fluids undergoing phase changes, and even three-phase mixtures. This volume, the first in a newly retitled series, covers recent advances on mixed-flow multiphase systems and the transport processes associated with turbulent mixing. The 38 chapters cover a variety of research and new innovations in jet mixing, mechanical agitation, fluidized bed reactors and multiphase chemical reactors.
